Tobi Amusan not Cleared of Doping Charge – World Athletics

World Athletic said Tobi Amusan has not been given the all-clear to participate in the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, next week.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) initially excluded Amusan’s name from the roster due to an ongoing doping investigation involving her.

However, the AFN later reversed its decision and included Amusan’s name in the list for the world athletics championship, sparking reports from media (Good Evening Nigeria not included) that she had been granted clearance.

In response to these reports, World Athletics clarified the situation on Sunday, stating that Amusan has not yet received the green light to compete in Budapest.

Nicole Jeffery, Head of Communications at World Athletics, issued a statement asserting, “Please be advised – reports that say Tobi Amusan has been cleared to compete in Budapest are wrong.

“No decision has been made in this case yet. When a decision is made, it will be announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit.”

GOOD EVENING NIGERIA recalls that World Athletics included the 26-year-old Nigeria’s name in the entry list for the Budapest Championships published last week but with a provision that her participation would depend on the outcome of the whereabouts failure charge preferred against her by the AIU.
