The management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has announced an extension of the deadline for undergraduate registration for the 2021/2022 session by an additional thirty (30) days.
The new closing date for undergraduate program registration is now September 9, 2023, according to a statement posted on the university’s official website.
GOOD EVENING NIGERIA reports that The decision to extend the registration period comes in the wake of a public outcry over the recent increase in the university’s registration fees for students.
The fees were reportedly raised from a range of N37,000 to N44,000 to higher rates of N97,000 to N140,000.
Earlier on Thursday, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Sagir Abbas, during a meeting with the leadership of Kano Correspondents Chapel at his office, had said the school administration plans to review the registration deadline for the 2021–22 academic session.

He said the university made the decision after meeting with the delegation of the Kano state government, through the Commissioner of Higher Education, who expressed concern about the increase in registration fees.
According to him, the institution was compelled to increase the registration fee to enable it to run its affairs effectively.
He added that university’s move to extend the registration period aims to accommodate affected students and address the concerns surrounding the fee increase.
