A lawsuit filed by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, requesting access to the academic records of President Bola Tinubu, has been dismissed by a United States court.
The Circuit Court of Cook County in Illinois, USA, ruled against Atiku’s suit, as reported by The Nation.
President Tinubu has publicly stated that he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University.

Beverly Poindexter, responsible for transcript requests and degree verification, confirmed earlier this year that Tinubu attended the university between 1977 and 1979.
Despite Tinubu’s academic credentials being verified, Atiku, who was the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, has consistently maintained that the president’s academic records were forged.
In a recent turn of events, Atiku filed a lawsuit aiming to subpoena the university and obtain Tinubu’s academic records.
The requested documents included details about Tinubu’s admission, attendance dates, degrees, awards, and honors from the university, among other records.
However, before the scheduled hearing date, Atiku withdrew the lawsuit.

On July 31, Presiding Judge Patrick Heneghan of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, issued a ruling dismissing the case due to Atiku’s withdrawal.
The judge’s decision stated, “Petitioner’s subpoena in this case is withdrawn and thus Chicago State University will not be deposed pursuant to the subpoena in this case.”
