Umar Idris Shuaibu, Kano
Ahmadu Haruna Zago, a veteran Kano politician and Managing Director of the Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), has passed away at the age of 74.
His death was announced by the Kano State Government in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday morning.
Popularly known as Dan Zago, he died in the early hours of Thursday after a prolonged illness at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

Family sources confirmed that his funeral prayer (Salatul Janaza) is scheduled for 1:00 PM today at the Emir’s Palace in Kano, where family members, government officials, friends, and associates will gather to pay their final respects.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Alhaji Zago as a dedicated public servant, a master political strategist, and a business mogul who significantly shaped Kano’s political landscape over the past 50 years.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Kano, praying for Allah’s mercy upon his soul.
Dan Zago was a renowned grassroots politician who held various key positions, including:
State Chairman of the defunct ANPP
Political Adviser to a former Kano State Governor
Special Assistant to a former Speaker of the House of Representatives
Board member of several private companies within and outside Kano State
His contributions to Kano’s political and economic landscape will be remembered for years to come.
