The Kano State Ministry of Local Government has expressed its readiness to support policies and programs aimed at advancing the development of the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Local Government, Muhammad Tajo Othman, during a news conference to update the public on the committee’s efforts to distribute school uniforms to over 789,000 pupils in public primary schools across the state.

The initiative is part of the state government’s strategy to address the issue of out-of-school children.

Othman announced that the Ministry would soon establish a monitoring and evaluation committee to oversee ongoing projects and ensure the fulfillment of campaign promises made by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“All primary school pupils, starting from primary one, will receive two sets of uniforms. This initiative aims to encourage parents to enroll more children in schools,” he stated.

The Commissioner also highlighted the opportunities presented by the recent local government autonomy granted by the National Assembly. He affirmed the administration’s commitment to disbursing resources directly to local governments to foster development at the grassroots.

“This measure will stimulate the economy and reinforce Kano State’s position as a hub of business and commerce,” Othman emphasized.

He assured that the exclusive functions of local governments, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution, would remain intact to ensure the impact of governance is felt at the grassroots level.

Othman further pledged that the Ministry would continue to update residents on new policies and initiatives aimed at improving the local government areas.

He urged Local Government Councils to exercise caution in managing their finances, stressing the importance of adhering to established procedures before incurring any expenditures.

The Commissioner reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the state government’s developmental agenda and ensuring that Kano continues to thrive as a center of commerce and growth.
