AKTH Cooperative Society Declares Savings of Over ₦1 Billion, Urges Membership Subscriptions

Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited has declared over one billion as their savings from its members.

The Director Cooperative of the hospital, Malam Shehu Bala stated this during the 2024 annual general meeting of the society held at the AKTH conference room.

Shehu Bala said the success of the society is remarkable considering the numerous activities aimed at improving the lives of the members.

Bala added that AKTH Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society happens to be one of the successful looking at the developmental projects on the ground.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe, said the effort of the cooperative society helped members of staff to be dedicated to their duties as their savings allow them to build other businesses during retirement.

Sheshe represented by the Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Dalha Halliru Gwarzo, praised them and urged them to sustain the effort as their membership is always increasing.

In his remark, the President of the Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Malam Kabiru Abba Yakasai said that currently there are over 2,000 members in the association that cut across all cadres in the hospital.

“As of our last report of 31st March this year, we have over 1 billion worth of assets, which is always increasing as a result of the effort of our members.

Our activities cover the purchase of plots, houses, motorcycles, loans, and many others to the members”.

Yakasai assured members to increase their shares so as to get higher returns to serve as their retirement package.

He added that the society is planning to collaborate with Kano State Housing Corporation to venture into real estate with a view to ease access of getting property for members.

“Through this collaboration, our members will get houses, and plots easily without looking for an interest loan for the same purpose.

“God willing in 2025 we’re determine to boost investment horizons that will include real estate and bakery, this is to improve earning power of the society”, Yakasai.

AKTH Cooperative Society said plans are underway to open a Multipurpose Cooperative Society Microfinance Bank, and to develop a website to automate the whole system of the society and to serve as a data bank and how other members can access other services online.

Dignitaries that attended the 2024 occasion include Kano State Commissioner of Investment, Commerce, Industries, Cooperative and Solid Minerals, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya represented by Director Admin and General Services of the Ministry, Shamsu Lawan.
