KNUPDA set up Public Complaint Committee to investigate extortion for issuance of approvals

The Kano Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) has inaugurated a Public Complaint Committee aimed at addressing grievances related to staff misconduct, particularly regarding the collection of money for approvals and the issuance of unauthorized approvals.

The Managing Director of KNUPDA, Architect Ibrahim Yakubu, made this announcement during a press conference held in Kano.

He emphasized the importance of establishing this committee in response to numerous complaints from the public about staff members demanding money to facilitate approvals or to ease the approval process.

“We have received disturbing reports of our staff collecting money from individuals seeking approvals, and in some cases, issuing unauthorized or ‘black market’ approvals,” said Yakubu.

“This committee has been established to investigate these serious allegations thoroughly.”

The committee will actively receive and investigate complaints from customers and clients.

“Any staff member found guilty of such misconduct will face appropriate disciplinary action. The committee is mandated to submit its report after six months, and this report will be made available to the public.”

The committee will be headed by the Director of Personnel Management, Alhaji Aminu Umar. Other members include Mujtaba Adamu Amin, Engr. Kabiru Musa Dagumawa, and Sani Salisu Kabara, with Abubakar Bala serving as the committee’s secretary.

KNUPDA remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and transparency in all its operations.

KNUPDA urge the public to come forward with any complaints to ensure a fair and just investigation process.
