Hunger Protest: Security Operatives Vow To Deal with Vandals, Hoodlums In Kano

 

Security operatives has threatened deal with any individual or group planning to take advantage of the plan hunger protest to break law and order in Kano.

The operatives under the joint security apparatus in Kano urged residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation insisted adequate, no stone would be left unturned to ensure peace in the state.

Emergency from a strategic roundtable meeting at the Police headquarters in Kano, heads of security agencies including the military and paramilitary in the state said a joint reinforcement of men and officers would be deployed to safeguard public property.

A statement by spokesperson of Police command in Kano, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa disclosed the meeting came out of the stem from the recent development surrounding the protest.

Kiyawa said the security are concen by the palpable fear arising from the threats going round where some groups called for violent protest while some individuals promote peaceful protests with violent undertones.

Kiyawa added that while the security would continue to respect the right of individuals to embark on lawful and not violent protest, the organizers must provided necessary identities, venue of their protest and other vital information to ensure adequate security.

The statement said, “While we respect the right to protest, we strictly warn against any form of violence, vandalism, or disruption of Government property, private businesses, and public peace. Any individual found engaging in such unlawful activities will be swiftly dealt with in accordance with the law.

“The Police Command stands ready to work with organizers and participants to ensure a peaceful and orderly protest that respects the rights and safety of all individuals. All groups planning to participate in the protest should provide the Command with the following information:

“We must also urge the law-abiding people of the State to remain patriotic and to rethink joining any protest group as it has become clear that even a peaceful protest at this time may be ill-timed, especially with the current issues in Kano State.

“While we respect the right to protest, we strictly warn against any form of violence, vandalism, or disruption of Government property, private businesses, and public peace. Any individual found engaging in such unlawful activities will be swiftly dealt with in accordance with the law.

“The Police Command stands ready to work with organizers and participants to ensure a peaceful and orderly protest that respects the rights and safety of all individuals. All groups planning to participate in the protest should provide the Command with assembly point, routes, duration of protest”.

The police said provision of the information will enable the security to provide adequate personnel to prevent possible hijack by criminal elements.
