The Kano State Police Command have successfully rescued a 2-year-old girl, Amina, who was kidnapped from her home in Sabuwar Gandu Kwarin Barka Quarters.

The rescue operation took place less than a day after the incident was reported.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed in a press release that, on July 4, 2024, at approximately 4 PM, the victim’s father received a phone call from an unknown individual demanding a ransom of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) for his daughter’s release.

The distraught parent promptly reported the incident to the Kano State Police Command.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Dogo Garba raised a team of Anti-kidnapping Squad led by SP Aliyu Muhammad Auwal, with a directive to rescue the young girl within 24 hours and arrest the kidnapper.

The squad launched an intensive and intelligence-driven operation that bore fruit swiftly.

“At 8 AM on July 5, 2024, just 16 hours after the kidnapping, the police arrested the suspect, 22-year-old Zakariyya Muhammad.

“During interrogation, Muhammad, who happens to be a neighbor to the victim confessed to having singlehandedly committed the offence and led the detectives to where he kept the victim hostage.

“The young girl was rescued unhurt in an isolated area and rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano where she was examined, found healthy, and discharged.”

The Commissioner commended the prompt and effective response of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of all residents.
