Kano State Government has suspended a medical officer at Muhammad Abdullah Wase teaching hospital for dereliction of entrusted duty.
Executive Secretary, State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Mansur Mudi Nagoda said approval for immediate suspension of the female medical officer became pertinent to serve as deterrent to careless personnel.
According to Dr. Nagoda, the affected doctor whose name was omitted, was accused of absconding from core duty, leaving a dialysis patient in a terrified condition.
The head of the board further regretted the action of the doctor despite the oath taken to protect lives as 1st point of call warned that Government will not hesitate to sanction any staff found guilty of mismanagement of patients.
Dr Nagoda added that the medical officer’s suspension will be effective pending on the outcome of the investigation, insisted anyone whose name appears on the duty roster but found derelicting of duty will be sanctioned.
” The suspension followed several complains received yesterday night by patients and staff of the facility after the Doctor left the facility without prior knowledge of any officer or the management of the hospital.
“Several calls where placed to her and she kept saying she is in the premises while she wasn’t in the doctors quarters and upto morning she never showed up leaving a dialysis patient in a terrified state”. Dr. Nagoda added.
“Let this serve as a warning to all, if by any means you have to be absent from duty, it is paramount to make a proper arrangement with another doctor to cover up your duty post. We will not fold our arms and watch people throw the system into uncertainty” he said.
A statement by Samira Suleiman, spokesperson of the board, Dr Nagoda said government will not tolerate any act of sabotage added that government has committed huge resources to improve the health population of the state.
