Government Suspends Operations at Kwara Abattoir Amid Suspected Meat Poisoning

 

In response to concerns over possible meat contamination, the Kwara State Government has taken decisive action by temporarily halting operations at the Mandate Market abattoir in Ilorin. The shutdown, effective Sunday, will facilitate extensive fumigation and sanitation procedures in the vicinity.l

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla who disclosed the development in Ilorin the state capital said the action was part of precautionary measure to shield the public from potential harm.

The abattoir is slated to resume operations on Wednesday, following thorough cleansing protocols, the permanent secretary noted.

It was gathered that a task force committee comprising government officials and experts visited a popular Mandate Market in Ilorin to address mounting fears of tainted meat.

At the market, all meat products suspected of contamination were seized for laboratory analysis, following consultations with market stakeholders.

This development marks a proactive step in the wake of recent reports surrounding alleged meat poisoning incidents at the bustling Mandate Market.
