Rivers Assembly Renews Hostility with Gov. Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of dishonesty and potential breaches of the constitution.

In a renew race of hostility, the legislature vowed to resume impeachment proceedings, if the Governor Fubara persists in violating constitutional principles.

Addresding a press briefing in Port Harcourt, on Saturday, Speaker Martin Amaewhule accompanied by 26 members of the Assembly, delivered a communique outlining their grievances and intentions.

The lawmakers expressed disappointment over Governor Fubara’s failure to uphold the commitments outlined in the Presidential Peace Accord, which he voluntarily signed.

The withdrawal of the impeachment notice against Governor Fubara, the lawmakers clarified, was a gesture of respect towards President Tinubu and a hopeful gesture towards the governor’s potential change of heart.

However, they cautioned that any continuation of what they termed as “constant constitutional breaches” would prompt them to reinstate the impeachment proceedings.

In a bold declaration, the Rivers State House of Assembly has rebuffed purported attacks against its integrity, pledging to uphold its constitutional duties despite challenges.

Shedding light on their concern, Speaker Amaewhule alleged orchestrated assaults, asserted its resilience against attempts to undermine its authority.

Speaker Amaewhule highlighted the Assembly’s steadfastness in the face of adversity, denouncing what he described as “sponsored attacks” aimed at destabilizing legislative operations.

Accusations leveled against the House include claims of constitutional breaches and attempts to discredit its members.

However, Speaker Amaewhule reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to its legislative mandate and vowed to remain undeterred by external pressures.

Furthermore, the Assembly addressed recent criticisms from various groups, including the “Former Rivers State PDP Presidential Campaign Council,” regarding its legality and alignment with political interests.

Despite external scrutiny, the Assembly maintained its position and emphasized its dedication to serving the people of Rivers State.

Amidst mounting tensions, the Assembly called upon President Tinubu to disregard what they termed as “misguided individuals” and reiterated their support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Additionally, they urged Nigerians to stand united in supporting the government’s efforts towards economic recovery and improved livelihoods.
