Nomadic Education: Commission Commences Review of Teachers Guide

The National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE), has commenced the process for the review and development of teacher’s guides in three subject areas, including Islamic Religious Studies (IRS), Christian Religious Studies (CRS), and History, for the education of pastoralists migrant fisherfolk and farmers.

The Executive Secretary of NCNE, Professor Bashir Usman, who stated this at a workshop in Abuja, said the move is borne out of the desire to ensure that nomadic teachers are fully guided to improve the quality of teaching and learning in nomadic schools.

In a three (3) day workshop, Professor Usman advised the participants to be dedicated to achieving the objectives, saying the workshop is also part of the commission’s effort to address the noticeable poor learning outcomes associated with teachers.

The Head of Department, Planning, Research, and Statistics, Dr. Rose Nwaji, who was represented by the Chief Education Officer of NCNE, Mrs. Isma’ila Oluwaseyi Bukola, said the development of the teacher’s guides is to assist the teacher in delivering the content to the pupils effectively.

A lecturer in the Department of History at Kaduna State University, Professor Abdullahi Ashafa, advised the Federal Government to provide funds for the review of additional subjects, even as he charged participants to do the needful in delivering quality guidelines for teachers.

Federal Government instituted a nomadic education program for nomadic in 1986 to address their educational needs.
