Guber elections: I-G orders investigation into incidences of violence

The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered investigation into pockets of vilonce recoded during the Nov. 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi.

The directive is contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday in Abuja.

The I-G directed all Electoral Offences Desk Officers under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, to commence the investigation.

Egbetokun commended other security operatives for providing adequate support to the Nigeria Police Force during the elections.

He said the commitment and due diligence displayed by the security operatives in policing the electoral process was highly productive and commendable.

Egbetokun said the electoral process in the three states was seamless, defying earlier threat assessment and projected challenges from various quarters.

He acknowledges the exceptional efforts of the security personnel in maintaining law and order, safeguarding the electoral process, and ensuring the safety of citizens.

The I-G expressed gratitude to security agencies involved in election security for lending their support to the Police in securing the electoral process.

He enjoined officers to remain committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

Egbetokun said adherence to guidelines, rule of law and standard operating procedures of security agencies was key to a more secured democratic institution.
