In a disturbing turn of events, bandits operating in Mariga Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State are now demanding not only cash but also petrol and recharge cards as ransom from the families of those in captivity.
Quoting an anonymous source in the area, Daily Trust reported that, persons who attempted to deliver the initial ransom payment were reportedly subjected to whipping “for not bringing enough money, as well as petrol and recharge cards. They also demanded motorcycles before those in captivity would be released.”

Residents said their cattle had also been rustled in the last five days.
