Impeachment: Rivers Assembly Removes Governor Fubara’s Loyalist as Majority Leader

Rivers State House of Assembly has on Monday, removed Edison Ehie, from his position as the majority leader.

It is reported that Ehie, a known supporter of Governor Similanayi Fubara, had previously hindered efforts to initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor.

Announcing the removal of the majority leader at the Assembly sitting in Port Harcourt, the state capital, the speaker, Martins Amaehwule, said he was removed for not attending the assembly sitting.

Amaehwule said about 17 members of the House supported the removal of the house.

In related development, security agencies have taken over the entire complex of the Assembly, after an unknown arsonists set ablaze the chamber of the Assembly.

The move was seemingly intended to obstruct the impeachment process targeting Governor Fubara, who is reportedly in a dispute with his predecessor and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
