FG to Upgrade Kaduna Water Institute to University

The Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Alhaji Bello Muhammad Goronyo, said the government is planning to transform the National Water Resource Institute (NWRI) in Kaduna into a world-class university capable of awarding degrees, in line with global standards.

He said the institute, established 44 years ago as the only water institute across the country with an array of academics who are committed to their profession, will be upgraded to award degrees in its areas of specialty, as reported by Daily Trust.

The minister said this during a familiarisation tour of the institute.

“This is the only institution running courses like hydro technology, hydro engineering and irrigation in Nigeria. We are trying to revitalise this place to become a world standard degree-awarding university,” he said.

He said: “With the food security agenda of Mr President, the elevation of this institution will go a long way to address insecurity, unemployment, and youth inclusivity. With the array of professors, doctors and staff committed to provide desired teaching and learning, it’s time for this institute to realise its mandate.”

He urged the management of the river basins to utilise the institute maximally because it has the technology that can’t be found anywhere else.
