The Oyo State High Court, located in Ogbomoso, has overturned the appointment of the new Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.
The development follows the state government’s announcement of Pastor Olaoye, a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), as the new Soun on September 8, 2023.
The position became vacant after the passing of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III in December 2021, after a reign of 48 years.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State had appointed Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomosoland.
However, the selection process for Olaoye stirred controversy and resulted in a legal battle. Abdulwahab Laoye, the Chairman of the Screening Committee for the Laoye ruling house in Ogbomoso, asserted that the family had not chosen a candidate to fill the vacant Soun’s position.
He dismissed social media reports indicating that Ghandi Afolabi, an RCCG pastor, had been selected, describing these claims as mere speculation.
