Three Suspects Arrested with 318 Stolen Mobile Phones in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three persons found in possession of 318 mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from a local market in the state.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who provided this information in a statement released on Sunday, the suspects were captured following a complaint filed by mobile phone vendors at the Alkhairat GSM market in Kano metropolis.

SP Kiyawa mentioned that on September 29, one Muhammad Adam, alongside nine other traders at the market, reported to the police that at midnight on the same day, hoodlums invaded the GSM market, broke into their shops, and made off with 671 mobile phones.

Subsequently, a team of detectives, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Kofar Wambai Division Kano, CSP Bala Mohammed, with a concerted effort, arrested Yusuf Surajo, 19 years old, from Yakasai Quarters Kano.

According to him, the arrest of Surajo eventually led to the capture of the principal suspect, Mustafa Auwal, from the same address.

Kiyawa further disclosed that the principal suspect had since confessed to conspiring with Surajo to steal the mobile phones, sell some, and leave the remaining ones with one Sani Garba, also from the same address.

He informed us that Garba was subsequently apprehended, and a total of 318 mobile phones were recovered from the three suspects

“All the suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the police investigation,” he stated.

He reiterates the commitment of the Police Command to the protection of life and property.

The CP further emphasised the commitment of the Command towards sustained efforts in clamping down on all criminal enterprises until the perpetrators repent or are apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.
