Mohbad’s Death: Ibadan Radio Stations Ban Naira Marley, Marlian Label Songs

In response to the circumstances surrounding the death of rapper Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, several prominent radio stations in Ibadan have imposed a ban on playing songs by Naira Marley and the Marlian Label until further notice.

Splash FM, one of the well-known radio stations in Ibadan, announced the ban on Naira Marley’s songs via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by one of its presenters, Aderonke Adesola (Olori Sports). The station stated that all songs by the ‘Puta’ crooner would not be broadcast until further notice due to the sensitive nature of Mohbad’s death and the ongoing police investigation.

In her post, Adesola wrote, “Good evening, team. In view of the sensitive nature surrounding the death of Mohbad and the criminal procedure initiated by the police, I urge us all to exercise discretion. To this effect, Naira Marley’s songs have become NTBB (not to be broadcast) on our station until further notice. This is with immediate effect. Thank you.”

Similarly, Agidigbo 88.7 FM, another radio station in Ibadan, has suspended the airplay of all songs from the Marlian Music label, in response to the public outcry that followed the rapper’s death and the alleged victimization he reportedly experienced while associated with the label.

In a statement posted on the Facebook page of a presenter at the station, Oriyomi Hamzat stated, “This is to inform the general public that Agidigbo 88.7 FM has suspended the airplay of all songs produced under the banner of Marlian Records, following the public outcry that has trailed the death of Mohbad and the alleged victimization he experienced at the hands of people linked with the label before his death. #JusticeforMohbad.”

The death of Mohbad has led to widespread social media discussions, with many expressing dissatisfaction over the alleged ill-treatment he faced while associated with his former record label. These sentiments have also resulted in calls for justice for the late rapper.
