The Presidential Election Petitions Court has rejected the claims made by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, regarding the dual citizenship and drug conviction allegations against President Bola Tinubu.
In a judgment concerning objections raised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu regarding his eligibility to contest the February 25 presidential election, Justice Moses Ugo declared that these claims constituted new issues.
Justice Ugo upheld the objections raised by the APC and President Tinubu, asserting that Atiku and the PDP could not introduce new issues that were not part of their initial petition.

Atiku had responded to Tinubu’s challenge by arguing that Tinubu was constitutionally disqualified from running for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He cited Tinubu’s forfeiture of $460,000 in a compromise agreement related to narcotics-related crimes in the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division.
Additionally, Atiku claimed that Tinubu had not disclosed his dual citizenship status, as he had acquired the citizenship of the Republic of Guinea while still holding Nigerian citizenship, a fact that Tinubu allegedly failed to mention in his form EC9.
