NLC Strike: Kano workers shut down KEDCO head office

In adherence to the two-day warning strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the National Electricity Workers Union (NUEW) on Tuesday, shut down the Kano Electricity Distribution Company’s (KEDCO) head office, situated on Post Office Road in Kano’s metropolis.

The NLC’s National Executive Council had, after its meeting on August 31, 2023, resolved to initiate a two-day warning strike.

This directive was extended to all affiliated members, scheduling the strike from Tuesday, September 5 to Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Sani Bala, the Head of Corporate Communications at KEDCO, confirmed the shutdown, stating that it is a full compliance with the NLC’s directive.

Comrade Ado Riruwai, the Kano State NLC Vice Chairman, spearheading the enforcement exercise, also confirmed the closure of government offices throughout the state.

He also said banks in the state also complied with the directive. Riruwai also said he would be heading to Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to ensure total compliance with NLC’s directive that no aircraft should land or take off.
