The Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line System has officially launched its commercial operations, as the state Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday embarked on the inaugural commercial ride in a moment that sparked excitement.
Accompanied by Deputy Governor, Mr. Kadir Obafemi Hamzat, and other key figures such as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, former Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, and more, Governor Sanwo-Olu initiated the journey at 9:07 am from the first coach.
He then traversed to the seventh coach, taking on the role of ride manager as he guided passengers on the boarding requirements.
Notable figures including former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and the governor’s wife, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, joined the event.

The trip from Marina station to Mile 2 was completed in 17 to 20 minutes, with brief 90-second stops at each station, concluding at the final destination.
Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced that the Red Line would become operational by December 2023, with construction progress exceeding 90 percent.
He shared this update with reporters at the Marina Blue Line train station after disembarking from the Mile 2 journey, highlighting the final touches being applied to bridges along the Red Line.
