PHOTOS: Inaugural African Climate Summit begins in Kenya

Africa is on the brink of commencing the inaugural African Climate Summit, under the theme “Driving Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World.”

Spearheaded by Kenyan President, William Ruto, this summit has gathered 24 Heads of State and Government from Africa and beyond at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

The primary objective of this summit is to tackle the growing challenges posed by climate change and its associated costs, with a specific focus on the African continent.It serves as a platform to inform, shape, and influence commitments, pledges, and outcomes, ultimately leading to the creation of the Nairobi Declaration.

Despite some minor inconveniences experienced by individuals during the accreditation process yesterday, the event is proceeding smoothly this morning.

The opening session features notable speakers, including Kenyan President William Ruto, President of Comoros Azali Assoumani, and Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

This session, themed “The Power of the Potential,” sets the stage for the African Climate Summit and African Climate Week.

It highlights Africa’s capacity to address climate-related challenges and underscores the importance of a more equitable financial system.

It also emphasises the need for a fairer financial system and highlights Africa’s position as it heads to the Conference of Parties 28, in the last week of November all to the early days of December.

Ruto arrived at the Tsavo Auditorium at exactly, 8:57 amid fanfare by the band.

Yesterday at the African Youth Climate Assembly, youth across African countries presented a copy of their declaration to the President of Kenya, William Ruto.

Today, representatives of the youth and indigenous people groups will also present their declaration.
