In a remarkable story of rediscovery and homecoming, a man who had been missing from Kano for half a century, since the Biafran war, has finally returned to his hometown.
Malam Shuaibu, as he is known, left Kano during the turbulent Biafran war and had been lost to his family and community for decades.
The reunion was made possible by Ahmad Tijjani Musa, the Chairman of Tudun Wada Local Government in Kano, situated in the North-Western region of Nigeria, as reported by Nigerian Tracker.
Chairman Musa, upon learning about Malam Shuaibu’s prolonged absence, sent emissaries to Benue state, where Shuaibu had been living, in a move to reunite him with his family.
The emissaries urged him to return to his homeland, which he had left behind during the war. But Malam Shuaibu revealed that he had not been practicing any religion during his long absence, which troubled him deeply.
In response, Chairman Musa took a significant step to assist in his spiritual and emotional journey. He administered the “Kalimatushhada” to Malam Shuaibu, signifying his reentry into the Islamic faith and welcoming him back to his community.

GOOD EVENING NIGERIA reports that Kalimatushhada is an Islamic declaration of faith, bearing witness to the oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad, which is a fundamental tenet of the Islamic religion.
News of Malam Shuaibu’s return began to spread as soldiers manning a checkpoint in Benue state learned about it. They shared the news of his reappearance, further amplifying the touching tale of reconnection and homecoming.
In a video message shared by Aliyu El-Idrith Shuaibu, the media aide to Chairman Musa, the administration of the “Kalimatushhada” to Malam Shuaibu was documented, symbolizing not only his renewed commitment to Islam but also his return to his roots and community.
