President Bola Tinubu has conveyed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, not to offer him any portion of Abuja land without charge if he ever requests one.
Tinubu, addressing an audience in Abuja on Sunday at the annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), also urged Wike to ensure the successful completion of the Abuja metroline for the benefit of the city’s residents.
Referring to Wike as the “landlord of Abuja,” Tinubu humorously stated, “I want to ride on your metroline. If I ask for free land, do not give me. But deliver the metroline for the good of the greatest number of Nigerians.”

Wike, the FCT minister, has garnered attention for his stance on demolishing unapproved buildings in the city.
During an inspection tour, Wike expressed the intention to complete the Abuja rail mass transit (ARMT) within eight months. The rail project, developed in six phases and financed through loans from China EXIM Bank, aims to address traffic congestion in the city.
Wike assured the public, saying, “The rail transport system is a project we will take to a logical conclusion. Before commencing another project, we will need to determine which areas are the most traffic areas. This is very important to decongest areas with traffic congestion.”
