Commission to Recruit 300,000 Personnel Nationwide to Combat Illegal Arms Spread

The National Commission for the Coordination and Control of Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons said it will recruit and train approximately 300,000 individuals across the nation to address the issue of illegal arms proliferation.

The commission said it intends to engage around 7,000 personnel in each state of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement on Sunday, the Acting Director-General of NATCOM, Otunba Adejare Adegbenro, said the idea was to tackle arm proliferation thereby making the country safe.

The statement read, “We are going to employ about 300,000 personnel across the country to make our nation a safer place.

“We won’t just employ, they will all undergo effective training. This, in itself, will also reduce the unemployment rate in the country. We shall join forces with other security agencies in driving our course.

In regards to when the recruitment will commence, Adegbenro noted that those interested in joining the initiative should be vigilant for the commission’s recruitment advertisements in national newspapers.

“Regarding the employment of 7000 personnel per state, those interested should be on the lookout for the guidelines on national dailies. But one thing is certain, we are looking for energetic and trainable youths. “
