A group of suspected bandits have reportedly demanded a ransom of N4 million for the release of one of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted in Zamfara State.
The incident involved eight recent graduates who were traveling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom to Sokoto State to participate in the mandatory National Service.
Their vehicle was intercepted by the bandits along a highway within Zamfara State on Friday
Emmanuel Etteh, the father of one of the victims named Glory Thomas, on Friday confirmed the abduction and ransom demand to News Point Nigeria.
He shared that the bandits contacted him using their phone number and requested N4 million for his daughter’s release.
The police command in Zamfara State has not yet provided an official statement regarding the abduction.
However, an anonymous military source confirmed the ransom demands and mentioned that a rescue team is actively searching the forest to ensure the safe release of the victims.

Meanwhile, the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier-General, Yushau Ahmed has suspended his routine camp tour to ensure the safe release of the prospective corps members (PCMs) who were kidnapped on their way to Sokoto state for their orientation programme.
Director, Press and Public Relations, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Mr Eddy Megwa said this in a phone conversation with Daily Trust.
Megwa assured that the NYSC and all stakeholders were doing their best to ensure that the corps members were released as soon as possible.
