Sokoto residents have been reassured by army authorities not to be alarmed by gunshots or troop movements expected to ensue in the coming days.
The 8 Division Nigerian Army based in Sokoto has announced the commencement of an inter-Brigade Range Classification Competition.
Scheduled for Tuesday, August 8, the exercise will specifically involve Warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers (SNCOs) at the Tankwale village shooting range in Sokoto. Live ammunition will be fired during the exercise, and troops will be mobilized to the shooting range situated along Illela Road in Sokoto State.

In an official statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Ikechukwu Eze and shared with the press in Sokoto, the purpose of the range classification exercise is to enhance the combat proficiency, firing skills, and marksmanship of troops in the non-commissioned officers’ cadre.
The statement also strongly advised residents and inhabitants of Tankwale village to refrain from entering the vicinity of the shooting range throughout the exercise period.
Additionally, the public was informed that the presence of troops in and around Illela Road, Sokoto State, should not cause any panic among residents.
