Zambia First to be Eliminated from FWW Cup, after double 5:0 Defeats

Zambia, alongside Costa Rica, has been eliminated from the ongoing Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The Zambian team, known as the Copper Queens, was placed in Group C, competing against Spain, Japan, and Costa Rica. The Women’s World Cup marked their debut in the prestigious tournament, making them one of the eight debutants this year.

However, a challenging start to their campaign proved to be insurmountable. In their first game, the Copper Queens suffered a significant defeat with a scoreline of 5-0 against Japan. This loss set the tone for their performance in the group stage.

In their second match, the Zambian team faced Spain and unfortunately experienced another 5-0 loss. These back-to-back defeats dashed their hopes of advancing further in the tournament.

With two rounds of matches completed, Zambia finds itself without a single point in Group C. In contrast, both Spain and Japan have secured six points each, making them strong contenders to progress to the next stage with one game left.

Although their chances of advancing have been extinguished, the Copper Queens will have one final opportunity to showcase their skills and secure a positive outcome in their last group game against Costa Rica.

As the first country to be eliminated from the Women’s World Cup, Zambia’s journey in the tournament may have come to an end, but their presence as debutants on the global stage has left a mark.
