DSS Linked Connection Between ‘Outlawed’ IPOB, Suspended CBN Governor

The Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria’s secret police, has put forward a suggestion that Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has a connection with the separatist group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Emefiele was suspended as the CBN governor by President Bola Tinubu in January.

Last week, he faced charges of illegal possession of firearms by the Nigerian government, following a court’s nullification of his detention by the DSS.

While Emefiele’s arrest and detention continue to be disputed in court, the DSS claimed on Tuesday that his choice of legal representation raises suspicions of a link to the proscribed separatist group.

DSS claimed that one of Emefiele’s lawyers, Maxwell Okpara, is also the legal representative of Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader who is currently facing treason and terrorism charges from the Nigerian government.

The tweet: “A Biafran Republic agitator and Outlawed IPOB counsel defending the suspended CBN Governor,” the DSS tweeted.

“Is IPOB defending one of theirs???? What a contradiction…..hmmm…what’s the connection? Is someone telling us something? May Maxwell be properly educated on points of law, please.”

“Charge and bail, overzealous uninformed IPOB/ESN lawyer Maxwell Okpara mobilises other like minded lawyers against DGSS. Futile Efforts. Well, Nigerians, beware! This is in bad faith. Transferred aggression.”
