The Kano State Hospital Management Board has introduced new policies and measures aimed at enhancing service delivery across all government-owned health facilities in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, announced these initiatives on Saturday during the first-quarter top management meeting for 2025.
As part of an intensive strategy to revolutionize the health sector, the measures include mandatory thorough cleaning of all health facilities, a vigorous campaign for attitudinal change among staff, routine vetting and auditing of the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) and Kano State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme (KSCHMA), and proper utilization of patient registers with complete details.

Additional steps outlined by Dr. Nagoda include the formation of sanitation committees, restructured training for DRF and KSCHMA operations, and the upgrading of the clinical unit at Imam Wali Hospital to cover general surgery and obstetrics and gynecology. This upgrade aims to ease the burden on Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.
Expressing concern over poor sanitary conditions in some facilities, Dr. Nagoda revealed that the state government provides cleaning materials to all health centers monthly. However, he lamented that some facilities fail to utilize these supplies effectively, warning that such negligence will no longer be tolerated.

“As of today, 1st February 2025, the revolution in the health sector has begun. The state government will no longer tolerate sabotage from any staff,” Dr. Nagoda warned, emphasizing that the resolutions were made in good faith, without intent to victimize or witch-hunt anyone.
The meeting was attended by the Board’s directors, zonal directors, and chief medical directors of state-owned facilities. Also present were the Director-General of the Kano State Center for Disease Control (KNCDC), Prof. Muhammad Abbas, and the Director-General of the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA), Dr. Usman Bashir.
