A Kano State High Court has granted administrative bail to Bala Muhammad Inuwa, the former Managing Director of Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited(KASCO), who was apprehended for his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of N4 billion belonging to the company.
Inuwa’s arrest by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) was prompted by suspicions of his connection to the alleged N4 billion fraud during his tenure as the MD of KASCO.
The arrest eventually took place last week after he was accused of breaking into a confiscated warehouse under investigation.
During the court session on Tuesday, Justice Usman Na’abba granted the suspect bail on self-recognition due to the extended custody period beyond legal limits by PCACC. In addition, Inuwa’s son, Inuwa Muhammad (Jnr), was granted bail with a N10 million bond and a surety of the same amount.
Professor Nasiru Aliyu (SAN), the legal representative for Inuwa, argued that the charges filed by PCACC were not appropriate for court consideration. He cited a court ruling that reportedly barred PCACC from arresting or charging his client.
The charges against Inuwa and his co-defendants, including his son, revolve around allegations of criminal breach of trust, criminal misappropriation, and making false statements in returns.
These charges are in line with the penal code and PCACC laws of Kano State.
The other defendants include Inuwa Mohammed (Jr), Halima Inuwa, Najib Muhammad, and the Incorporated Trustees of the Association of Compassionate Friends.
