The Chief Imam of Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) Kano, Sheikh Abbas Jibrin Birniwa, has passed away at the age of 63. He died on Friday, February 7, 2025.
Sheikh Abbas Jibrin was the founder of two Islamic schools in Hotoro behind ARTV, Madrastul Quran Wata’alimul Islam and Madrastul Abbasiyya Litahfizul Quran. Throughout his lifetime, he made significant contributions to Islamic education and the propagation of Islamic teachings.
He served as the Chief Imam of ARTV Kano for over 20 years and was widely respected for his dedication to teaching and mentoring both young and adult learners in the Hotoro area.

A native of Birniwa Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Sheikh Abbas Jibrin is survived by sixteen children and seven grandchildren.
His funeral prayer, led by Malam Dahiru Hotoro, was held at his residence and attended by over 1,500 mourners who gathered to pay their final respects. He was laid to rest at Hotoro Walawai Cemetery at around 10:30 a.m.
