The Northern Online Media Reporters and Publishers (NORP) has elected its new national executive members in a keenly contested election held at Arewa House, Kaduna, on Saturday. The election was supervised by the Union’s Electoral Committee.
Comrade Musa Mohammed from Kaduna State emerged as the new Executive National President after securing 287 votes, defeating Comrade Lynn Adda, the former NUJ chairman from Taraba State, who polled 138 votes.
In the race for the Executive National Secretary position, Comrade Femi Adi from Kogi State won with 210 votes, narrowly defeating Comrade Rayyan Al-Hassan, who garnered 207 votes. As stipulated by the Union’s constitution, the runners-up in these key positions automatically assume the roles of Deputy National President and National Assistant Secretary. Consequently, Comrade Lynn Adda and Comrade Rayyan Al-Hassan will serve in these respective capacities.

Other executives who emerged unopposed include:
Comrade Zaharaddeen Ishaq Zailani – National Financial Secretary
Comrade Abraham Suleman – Assistant National Financial Secretary
Comrade Abbas Yusha’u Yusuf – National Treasurer
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Musa Mohammed urged NORP members across the 19 northern states to leverage social media platforms to combat fake news and promote good governance.
“Our greatest challenge is the rise of citizen journalism, where unverified information spreads easily. However, with professional journalists taking over, social media can become a reliable tool for credible news dissemination,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of ethical journalism and expressed his commitment to fostering unity and progress within NORP throughout his three-year tenure.
Comrade Musa Mohammed also appreciated members for their participation in the election and wished them a safe journey back to their respective destinations.
