The Kano State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman Zaura, has called on local government workers across the state to support the administration’s goals and transformation agenda.
The Commissioner made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the executives of the Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to his office.
Alhaji Tajuddeen Zaura described local government workers as pivotal to effective administration and urged them to cooperate in implementing the government’s transformation plans across the state’s 44 local governments. He highlighted the state government’s approval of projects worth billions of naira, including constructing feeder roads, culverts, drainages, and building and renovating health facilities.

He emphasized that a project monitoring committee has been established to ensure projects are executed according to stipulated guidelines. This committee will provide updates on project phases to ensure transparency, accountability, and prudent use of resources.
The Commissioner also pledged to work closely with NULGE members and urged them to explore innovative ways of generating revenue to reduce reliance on check-off dues while improving members’ welfare.
In his remarks, the Kano State NULGE President, Comrade Muhammad Ibrahim, congratulated the Commissioner on his redeployment to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. He introduced the union’s new executives, expressing their commitment to a productive working relationship.
Comrade Ibrahim assured the Commissioner of the full support of local government staff to help him fulfill his mandate and justify the confidence placed in him by the Kano State Governor. He also disclosed plans for massive sensitization campaigns in all 44 local government areas to encourage workers to perform their duties with dedication, enthusiasm, and decorum.
The union president commended the Kano State Government for extending the service years of the immediate past NULGE president, Comrade Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, in recognition of his dedication and contributions to local government administration.
