The Arewa Development Support Initiative (ADSI) has provided financial support to 50 widows in Kano, each receiving a cash grant of N50,000 to boost their businesses.
Presenting the grants to the beneficiaries, the Caretaker Chairman of ADSI, Professor Aliyu Abdu, stated that the initiative aims to empower the women to reinvest in their businesses amidst the challenging economic climate.
“This grant is to help the beneficiaries sustain and grow their businesses, which were carefully evaluated in their respective communities.”

“Many of these widows are raising children and managing household responsibilities. Without such support, their businesses might collapse,” Prof Aliyu Abdu.
Alhaji Muhammad Jafar Na’abba, a committee member of ADSI, urged the recipients to use the funds wisely to improve their businesses and ultimately enhance their livelihoods.

“Initially, we didn’t provide cash grants, but this decision was made after funds remained from a previous project here in Kano. So committee management resolved to distribute the funds to alleviate the suffering of these widows,” he explained.
Two of the beneficiaries, Halima Abdullahi from Sabuwar Gandu Quarters and Zahra’u Nasir from Babban Giji Quarters, expressed their gratitude for the gesture.
They pledged to utilize the funds effectively to improve their businesses and livelihood.
The ADSI initiative underscores the significance of community-driven interventions in addressing economic difficulties and uplifting vulnerable groups.
