The Kano State Government has allocated N3 billion in the 2025 budget for humanitarian and poverty alleviation initiatives aimed at addressing pressing challenges across the state.

This was disclosed by Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, during a press briefing after presenting the ministry’s 2025 budget defense to the Kano State House of Assembly.

Dr. Magashi highlighted key components of the proposed budget, including the establishment of a Humanitarian Interventions Trust Fund and the creation of a business case for the Kano State Bank for Poverty Alleviation.

He also revealed plans for a five-year strategic framework and an annual operational plan for 2025.

In addition, the ministry aims to conduct capacity-building programs for disaster and emergency response officers across Kano’s 44 local government areas.

Other initiatives include the procurement of emergency equipment and the distribution of relief materials to displaced persons and vulnerable residents.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to present the budget, Dr. Magashi, accompanied by the immediate past Commissioner of the Ministry, Hajiya Amina Sani Abdullahi, commended her for entrusting him with the task.

It will be recalled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf appointed Dr. Magashi as Technical Adviser to the Ministry on November 12, 2024.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the appointment was made to bolster the ministry’s capacity.

Governor Yusuf praised Dr. Magashi’s extensive experience, noting his “decades-long dedication to public service” and his commitment to improving the lives of underserved communities in Kano. “The governor’s choice reflects his deep trust in Dr. Magashi’s expertise and leadership, recognizing him as a key player in advancing the administration’s humanitarian goals,” the statement added.

Dr. Magashi, a seasoned expert with over 30 years in development and humanitarian work, previously served as Chairman of the health transition committee and played a pivotal role in drafting Governor Yusuf’s campaign blueprint in 2022.
