KNSG Lauds KSADP for Transparency, Diligence

Kano state government has applauded the Kano Agro-pastoral Development Project, KSADP, for its transparent and result oriented project, which must be sustained for wider impact.

Endorsing the project, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, said: “I came with a sceptical mind having been in the development partner circle for some time. We have seen other projects (in Kano) including a World Bank project that just finished.

“But I haven’t seen the kind of content in terms of strength and transparency, as their own (KSADP). Even the documentation is excellent”.

The Commissioner, who was speaking when he received members of the Islamic Development Bank mission to Kano, acknowledged that the Project Management Unit of KSADP, funded by the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and Livelihood Fund, has been transparent and hardworking, thus resulting in appreciable outcomes.

Dr. Mahmoud further said the state government would want the project to have positive spill over effect and connection with other donor funded and sub-national projects, for strengthening and wider positive impact in the society.

“We also want to see a third party Monitoring and Evaluation involvement in this project, executed with technical cooperation of its partners, so that we can have a sense of how we wondered off track and what is needed to be done to bring us back on track and make the project sustainable”, Dr. Mahmoud added.

The Commissioner said the government is happy with the economic empowerment component of the project, pointing out that its goat reproduction scheme is impacting thousands of beneficiaries, majorly women and improving livelihoods across the state.

“As the project comes to an end, there is the need for repurposing so that other critical sectors can be covered, in line with the overall project objectives”, he stressed, suggesting that feasibility studies of the second phase of the project should commence soon to keep things on the right track.

Earlier, the leader of the Islamic Development Bank mission to Kano, Mr. Javed Khan was basically to evaluate the project, ensure that pending contracts are signed, issues of disbursements addressed and importantly, focus on issues of sustainability and repurposing.

According to statement by Ameen K. Yassar Project Communication Specialist, KSADP, the Mission had earlier visited the Managing Director of Kano state’s agricultural agency, KNARDA, Dr. Farouk Ahmad Kurawa where topics of mutual interest were examined.
