The Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPT), Kano on Tuesday commenced training farmers on farmers’ financial cycle.
It is organized in collaboration with (GIZ & GP AgFin), a German-based nongovernmental organization aimed at repositioning farmers and improving access to financial services tailored to the needs of agricultural businesses and Agri-based enterprises in rural areas.
Declaring the training programme open, the Provost of FCAPT, Kano Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram disclosed that the training will play an important role in the economic development of rural farmers.

Gwaram noted that farmers’ financial cycle will usher in rural farmers’ access to adequate financial services, farm budget that will no doubt boost many agricultural value chains.
“Lack of knowledge in the farming financial cycle restricts investment in agricultural production, processing and market, which this training will overcome the problem”, Gwaram stated.
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Provost of FCAPT Kano, Dr. Bashir Barau maintained that it is part of the mandate of the college training of farmers targeted at promoting the agricultural value chain.
Dr. Bashir Barau added that farmers’ financial cycle will help farmers to know how to utilize their farming investment and also ways to get loans that will improve their businesses.
“Not only loans from designated institutions, this training is an avenue to get resources from international nongovernmental organizations that are supporting farmers.
“Currently, Jaiz Bank agreed to give our students a loan from two hundred thousand up to around two million Naira, purposely to implement what they have learned from the training.
FCAPT Begins Palliative Distribution to Staff of the College
“Instead of training, we decided to train our students who will go out and train the rural farmers on this new technique, and the aim is to get a means of livelihood from the knowledge by transferring it to farmers’ associations and individual farmers.
“As a graduate of FCAPT, you have all the necessary tools to start something from the knowledge product gained from the institution, because we make sure our students are equipped with the necessary training that will help them even without getting a white-collar job”, Deputy Provost FCAPT.
The Management of Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPT) says that 24 lecturers were selected from 9 departments, to benefit from the training and also transfer the knowledge to their students.
Reports indicate that FCAPT was chosen from Northern Nigeria, alongside the Federal College of Agriculture Akure in Ondo State, and Moor Plantation, Federal College of Agriculture Ibadan.
