Eugenie Le Sommer’s impressive performance, marked by two goals, propelled France into the quarter-finals, where they are set to face co-hosts Australia.

Morocco had captured attention by defying expectations and reaching the last 16, knocking out Germany in their debut appearance at the tournament.

However, facing Herve Renard’s French squad in Adelaide proved to be an insurmountable challenge for Morocco.

Kadidiatou Diani initiated the scoring in the 15th minute, and France further solidified their lead with goals from Kenza Dali and Le Sommer, extending their advantage to 3-0 by the midway point of the first half.

Veteran striker Le Sommer, renowned as France’s all-time leading scorer, continued to make her mark with another goal 20 minutes before the final whistle.

The upcoming quarter-final match against Australia, scheduled for Saturday in Brisbane, will determine whether France can equal their best-ever World Cup performance achieved in 2011 when they reached the semi-finals.

Herve Renard, the French team’s coach, expressed contentment with their progress, stating, “We fulfilled our objective. You always want a little bit more, but it’s fine.”

France’s exit from the 2019 tournament in the quarter-finals, facing eventual champions the United States, motivated the team to strive for more success this time.

With their sights set on surpassing their achievements from 2011, Renard emphasized the importance of the quarter-final match against the host nation.

He acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting, “We have matched our performance of four years ago, but our objective was to do better than we did in 2011, so we know what we have left to do.”

When asked about the potential victory against Australia in front of a challenging crowd, Renard expressed confidence, stating, “We are capable of doing it but it won’t be easy, albeit not easy for either team.”
