Kano LG: Accept Defeat, Yusuf Tells APC

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Saturday challenged the opposition All Progressives Congress APC to concede defeat in the ongoing council election in the state.

Governor Yusuf gave the advise after casting ballot at his Chiranci ward in Gwale local government area of the state, where he described the conduct of the election as freest process in history of election in the country.

APC has earlier on Friday announced their withdrawal in the conduct of the council election citing the Judgment of Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal high court as justification of it decision.

They however silent over the subsequent ruling of Justice Sanusi Ma’aji of the state high court which upheld the Constitutional and electoral powers of the electoral body to proceed with the council poll as scheduled.

Yusuf stressed that APC would have tested it’s strength and credibility while taking part in the conduct of the election, instead of embarking on litigation to scuttle the peaceful process.

Further, the Governor expressed dismay why the opposition party would neglect the democratic process, only to prefer unlawful root to deny Kano residents of sources of income in the name of politics.

He however appealed to APC to consider the path of peace, growth and development of Kano and accept defeat in good fate.

” I want to appeal to APC to rather accept defeat instead of going to Court. It is rather unfortunate that APC was actually not willing to participate in the council election. Taking part in the election would have been better to test their popularity.

” It is even more worrisome while they were not willing to take part in the election, they resorted to going to court to stop the will of the people. I urged them to accept defeat and join the progressives in the interest of peace and development of Kano”. Yusuf added.

He had earlier appealed to Federal Government and the Judiciary to pave ways for the survival of democratic process in Kano rather than embarking on actions to subvert the will of the people in the state.

The Governor posited that Nigeria belong to everybody regardless of political influence, added that attempt to scuttle public good for selfish and political interest should be avoided.
