The Katsina State Government has pledged to provide a conducive atmosphere for the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state this year.

The state’s Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Falalu Bawale, said this at the swearing-in of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ stream ll corps members on Friday in Katsina.

“We in Katsina State are NYSC friendly, and I want to assure you of conducive atmosphere throughout your service year.

“I have no doubt that you will find the state a home away from home as our people are generally receptive and accommodating,” the head of service assured.

He reminded the corpse members that the orientation programme marked a very important segment of the service year.

“It provides a platform for your physical, emotional and psychological reconditioning to enable you meet the challenges of the service year and beyond.

“It ’ll also enable you to transit smoothly from your hitherto enclosed academic environment into the larger society,” Bawale said.

According to him, the state government has already sent a delegation to assess the level of dilapidated structures in the camp with a view to rehabilitating them.

He further implored them to participate actively in all the activities within the three weeks orientation period.

Earlier, the State NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Sa’idu Ibrahim, disclosed that no fewer than 1,800 corps members were deployed to the state, “but as at the close of registration, midnight, a total of 1,176 members duly registered.”

The coordinator, however, expressed appreciation for the state government’s continued support to the NYSC scheme.

“Sir, due to the ever-increasing corps members’ population, who are being deployed to serve in the state every service year, additional hostel blocks for camp officials and a new administrative block are required,” he pleaded.

He added that when constructed, the administrative block would provide offices for the camp Commandant, head of police and other collaborating agencies during the orientation course programme.

“The renovation of male hostels in the camp is equally overdue, in some cases, corps members stay under the sun during lectures and other social activities,’’ Ibrahim said.

He also appealed to the state government to assist the camp with a giant tent, medium canopies and plastics chairs “to alleviate the plights of the corps members during these activities.”
