The Public Complaints Commission (PCC), says the capacity training on effective communication for efficient service delivery for its staff will enhance their capabilities and align them with international best practices.

The Assistant Director, Investigation of PCC in Kano, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad-Suleiman said this in her opening remarks at the five-day capacity building training, organised for PCC staff in Kano on Tuesday.

The theme of the training is “Effective Communication and Performance Rating.”

Muhammad-Suleiman said that communication skills enabled an organisation to promote accountability and transparency in governance.

She said the training was designed to equip the participants with necessary skills on their jobs as watchdogs of the society, so people could get social and administrative justice for free.

According to her, the training will provide avenue for developing good communication skills, improving performance and enhancing more knowledge on their day to day activities.

“Without effective communication skills we cannot achieve our goals.

“The primary mandate of the commission is to be impartial on behalf of complainants who feel aggrieved by the action or inaction of any tier of government or private companies.

“At the end of the training, the participants will be more equipped to discharge their responsibilities,” she said.

The assistant director urged the participants to utilise the knowledge acquired during the training to boost their capabilities and performance.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Head of Legal Service of PCC Kano, Usman Lawal-Bello, commended the management of PCC for the well-organised informative training.

“The training is first of its kind and will have a positive impact on our performance and the services we provide.”

Lawal-Bello said that the commission was committed to addressing complaints by using Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), such as mediation, arbitration and ministerial.

He called on the general public to report any complaint in the state to the PCC office at Katsina Road, Gezawa, Bichi, Tudun Wada and Gwarzo Local Government Areas of the state instead of fighting to ensure peaceful co-existence.

The resource persons, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad-Hassan, in her papers “How People Learn”, and “Team Work/Problem Solving and Transformational leadership” and Umar Shitu in his paper “Effective Communication Skills” examined the concept of professionalism in public service.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training had all staff of Kano PCC in attendance.(NAN)
