Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of Kano state high court Thursday ordered counsels in the ongoing Kano emirship trial to henceforth stop granting media interview on the pending matter.
Justice Aliyu issued the order while presiding over the pending applications filed by interested parties in the controversial suit at the Audu Bako secretariat, Kano.
Apparently disenchanted with conflicting information and misleading comments from interested parties while granting interviews to journalists, the presiding Judge held that henceforth, counsels to the plaintiffs and defendants are prevented from going to press.
She said, “It’s my order for you (lawyers) not to grant any interview with the press before and even after my ruling on the argument on the pending appeal on stay of proceedings filed by the first respondent. Even if I can not stop the journalists from doing their jobs I have the power to stop you (lawyers) and that is my order”.
The Attorney General of Kano State, Speaker Kano State House of Assembly and Kano State House of Assembly (applicants) have approached the court to stop the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and four others from parading themselves as emirs.
Other respondents are Alhaji Nasiru Ado-Bayero former emir of Bichi, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar ll, former emir of Karaye, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa, former emir of Rano and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim, former emir of Gaya.
Others are Inspector General of Police, Director State Security Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Nigeria Army.
