Mambayya, SEDSAC Celebrates 2024 Democracy Day With Public Lecture

Participants at a public lecture organized to mark 2024 Nigeria Democracy Day have expressed dissatisfaction with the level of progress and achievement of Democratic rule in the last 25 years.

Most of the participants who spoke during the event blame the country’s underdevelopment on politicians who always prioritize their interest above national interest.

The public lecture which was organized by Aminu Kano center for Democratic research and training ( Mambayya) in collaboration with SEDSAC: Humanitarian Initiative was attended by academics, politicians, traditional rulers, religious leaders and civil society groups to deliberate on the nation’s democracy.

The lecture titled; Democracy And The Nigerian Citizens: Profit or Loss also attracted students of political science from tertiary institutions who at the end of the event resolved to form a political party to rescue the country.

At the event, a well known political science scholar Dr Sa’idu Dukawa
Presented a paper on the topic Democracy And The Nigerian Citizens: Profit or Loss tracing the history of democracy up to the present day system.

Dr Sa’idu Dukawa intimated the participants the Democratic process in Nigeria, the gains and the challenges as well as the beauty of democracy.

Speaking during the event, Mambayya House Prof Habu Muhammad Fagge while delivering closing remarks, inform the gathering that, the center is planning to invite stakeholders to discuss the future of the democracy in Africa, as some scholars starting faulting the current system in Africa, with a view to providing solutions.

On his part, SEDSAC executive director Hamisu Kofar Na’isa, commended various stakeholders who indicated interest to change the narratives against Nigeria’s Democracy.
