The Federal Government has extended the Eid-El-Fitr holiday to Thursday April 11, 2024, to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Dr Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Ndayako “The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, while congratulating the muslim Ummah for a successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation, reiterates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) firm commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all to thrive,” the statement said.
The Federal government had earlier declared Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th April, 2024 public holiday for the Sallah celebration. However, the need to further extend the holiday may not be unconnected to moon sighting globally on Monday.
Good Evening Nigeria reports that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saa’d Abubakar had on Monday Evening announced that the 2024 Eid-El-Fitr celebration will now hold on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
The directive followed non sighting of Shawwal moon across the world to signal the end of the Ramadan.
Prior to Sultan’s declaration, the Supreme Court of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had announced non sighting of Shawwal moon on Monday.
The development subsequently necessitated additional fasting day to make the 2024 Ramadan a 30 day exercise.
