Suspected gunmen launched a deadly assault on Agojeju Odo community in the Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, resulting in the tragic loss of nineteen lives and the destruction of numerous houses.

The incident was confirmed by William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kogi State, who stated that the assailants, yet to be identified, carried out the attack on Thursday. According to Aya, the Divisional Police Office of the local government reported nineteen fatalities and several injuries.

CP Bethrand Onuoha, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, has responded by deploying additional police personnel to the affected communities, assuring the public of efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

Reports indicate that the gunmen targeted the quiet town of Agojeju Odo, leaving neighboring communities like Ajokpachi Odo and Bagaji deserted due to the ongoing security threat.

In light of the escalating violence, local residents have appealed to Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, and security agencies for urgent assistance. They emphasize the need for enhanced security measures in the area, expressing concerns over the overwhelmed and overpowered local police force.
