The warning strike embarked by the by the Senior Staff Academic Union, SSANU and Non Academic Staff Union, NASU took fresh dimension at Bayero university, Kano as the striking Union on Wednesday forced students out of examination.

According to Aminu, “As you are aware, that we have decided to embark on a seven days warning strike and it is a directive from national. Today is the first day, so we decided to hold this peaceful demonstration.

“The school is already being shut down completely. There is 100 per cent compliance from the members.

Responding on the plight of students writing their semester examination, the chairman said ” Yes the students are writing exams. We also have our children as students. I have two of my children are in the university. So as the National President have said, if you have not paid our salary, how will I pay the school fees of my children. I’m also a father and have my children in the university”.

Reacting to the development, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, BUK Chapter, Professor Ibrahim Siraj condemned the disruption of academic activities in the university.

Professor Siraj insisted the non-academia has no right to shut down the institution or stop students from writing their examination.

” As far as ASUU is concern, the activities in the university is going on smoothly and examination is going on as scheduled. I just left the examination Hall now. But I learned about the shut down of academics at the main campus. This is wrong”. ASUU Chairman said.

Efforts to get reaction of the university management was not successful as the institution’s spokesperson Garba Lamara declined calls.
