Police Commissioner in Kano, CP Muhammed Usaine Gumel has summoned operational commanders and Divisioner Officers to fashion out safety measures across public schools including tertiary institutions in Kano.
The move, CP Gumel said was in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on ensuring the safety of Schools Initiative nationwide.
CP Gumel said the order of IGP compels state commands to gear towards improving the security of lives and property, most especially the safety of schools and students.
According to the Commissioner, the command is reviewing the command’s Anti-Crime Strategies intending to provide adequate security to all Schools.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Commissioner of Police directed operational commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify and put in place robust patrols around all the vulnerable, primary and secondary schools, and all the tertiary institutions across the State.
“This measure is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of students, teachers, and staff and to boost the overall educational sector in the state. The intention of increasing presence of Police personnel in these areas is to further deter criminal activities and provide a secure environment conducive to learning and teaching.
“In furtherance, the Commissioner of Police urges members of the public, particularly school administrators, teachers, parents, and students, to cooperate fully with the Police and other security agencies and report any suspicious activities promptly so we can collectively work towards creating a safe and secure educational system that nurtures the growth and development of our future leaders.
” Finally, the Commissioner of Police appreciates the good people of the State for their support, cooperation, and understanding.
The CP also urged everyone to keep reporting any suspicious movement of person(s) or item(s) they come across to the nearest Police Station.
